"The Man In The Velvet Suit"
1878-1915

An EIGHT CD re-issue presented in two "quad" CD boxes, with  a separate 32 page booklet.   Full  details of matrices, recording dates and copies used are printed on the back  panel insert of each CD case. THESE ARE PROFESSIONAL  PRINTED CDS - No sticky labels, drop outs etc.

The series contains all the published titles recorded by Williams (including the four part Jumbo vocal medley) except the Odeon "I'se a-waiting for youJosie" (which may or may not have been published) plus in addition, three versions of Let's Have A Song Upon The ...phone,"  Williams' contribution to Ella Retford's Jumbo record of 1914, and the Edison and Jumbo orchestral medleys, and the interview with Williams' widow.  There are 172 tracks. The selection will be of interest both to the general collector  and the Williams specialist - a number of cylinders and Pathes, rarities (including Odeons) and unusual versions are included, fine copies of 'old favourites' are presented in vivid sound.

With attention paid to speed, the transfers are clear and bright, with surface noise retained, but with clicks and other physical imperfections carefully removed..  (Collectors will be aware that some of Williams' recordings are rare, and although the search for perfect copies has been successful in many cases, some titles may be noisier than others).
